RAWALPINDI - Commissioner of Rawalpindi Zahid Saeed has appealed the business community to voluntarily close their shops and markets till 9:00pm to help the government in overcoming the ongoing power shortage in the country. He was addressing a high-level meeting held here at the DCO Office on Friday. The MPA Chaudhry, Nadeem Khadim, District Coordination Officer (DCO) Imdadullah Bosal, Regional Police Officer (RPO) Nasir Khan Durrani, City Police Officer (CPO) Rao Iqbal Ahmed Khan, IESCO Chief Engineer Habib Ali Bangish, DCOs and DPOs of Attock, Jhelum, Chakwal, office bearers of traders union Malik Shahid Ghafoor Paracha and others also attended the meeting. Zahid Saeed told the office-bearers of that after a meeting held between the high ups of the provincial government and business community, it was decided that power supply would not be suspended from 4:00pm to 9:00pm in main markets and commercial centres. The Commissioner directed the WAPDA officials to announce power failure schedule and avoid to unannounced load shedding in the district. He asked the IESCO officials to improve their emergency response system, especially during rain, thunderstorm and tripping. The IESCO should establish its complaint cell at each sub division, fully equipped with at least two telephone lines and other modern equipment so that the citizens could be facilitated and their problems could immediately be resolved, he further ordered. The business community should come forward and play role to the help the government in tackling the power crises because the issue cannot be resolved overnight, Zahid Saeed maintained. He said that the traders should use one tube light or energy saver instead of two or three extra lights in their shops to save the electricity and added that it would also lessen the utility bill. Speaking on the occasion, RPO Nasir Khan Durrani appealed the business community to keep a vigil eye on terrorists activities. in their areas and inform police in case of any mishap. To stage protest is a democratic right of every citizen but it is wrong to damage the public property, he maintained. He said that police in collaboration with traders office-bearers had made a special plan to provide security to the citizens in the district. He said that it was the prime duty of the police to protect the lives and property of general public and in this regard, the cooperation of public especially the traders was very necessary. The meeting was also informed by Chief Engineer IESCO Habib Ali Bangash that that the IESCO would announce special Ramazan schedule. He said that IESCO was facing shortfall of power to the tune of 200MW in the region, which further increased to 350MW due to technical fault at Mangla Dam.
