OUR STAFF REPORTER LAHORE - Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that all resources are being utilised for the rapid development of the province and welfare of masses while timely and transparent completion of development projects is also being ensured. He said this while presiding over a high level-meeting regarding implementation of different projects under special packages during 2010-11 and priorities and timeframe for development schemes for the year 2011-12. Senior Advisor Sardar Zulfiqar Khosa, Provincial Ministers Ch Abdul Ghafoor, Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman, Kamran Michael, Ehsan ud Din Qureshi, Member National Assembly Bilal Yaseen, Sardar Iyaz Sadiq, Chief Secretary, secretaries of different departments and Divisional Commissioner attended the meeting. While commending the performance of chief secretary and heads of various departments for timely completion of different projects, the chief minister said that special attention was being paid to the uplift of rural areas and substantial funds have been allocated for this purpose during current fiscal year. He issued instructions for setting up of a committee of experts headed by Chief Secretary to select three such districts which showed better performance regarding implementation of development projects and utilization of funds under special packages for large cities and districts and Southern Punjab Development Programme during the year 2010-11. The committee will also identify three districts that showed poor performance. The meeting was told that various projects were launched under large cities and districts special packages and Southern Punjab Development Programme during last year and a number of them have been completed while funds of more than Rs. 13 billion had been allocated this year as well for these packages. Issuing instructions for including Chiniot and Sargodha under special packages programme, the CM directed that ongoing development projects for the current fiscal year should be completed on priority basis so that people could benefit from them as early as possible. He said that such big schemes should be selected for this purpose during 2011-12 which could benefit maximum people. He said that besides other districts funds of Rs 500 million have been allocated each for Sargodha and Chiniot and Attock and Rs 250 million for Mandi Bahauddin under districts packages programme for the current fiscal year. He said that performance of most of the districts with regard to implementation of special packages projects remained satisfactory during last fiscal year whereas slackness was observed in the execution of uplift projects in some districts. He directed chief secretary to award cash prizes to those showing good performance and a special function should be held for this purpose in Lahore while causes for poor performance in some districts should be ascertained and a report be submitted to him within ten days after looking into the reasons for slow pace of implementation of projects. He announced cash prizes of Rs 50,000 each for DCO Hafizabad, and DCO Gujrat and Rs 30,000 for DCO Rahim Yar Khan for their good performance. The chief minister further said that the project of Model Bazaars had been started for the provision of quality essential items to the people under a clean atmosphere and the first model bazaar in Lahore has been inaugurated. He said that model bazaars have also been completed in Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Sahiwal and Bahawalpur. He said that it was a splendid project and had been widely appreciated by the people. He said that the first model bazaar set up in Lahore at Township is worth-seeing where all necessary commodities are available to the people under one-roof. He said that two model bazaars have been completed in Lahore while five more will be established. He said that the project of model bazaars will be extended to all districts of the province under a phased programme.
