OUR STAFF REPORTER LAHORE - No doubt the domestic sector is facing problems due to loadshedding, the preference in electricity supply is continuously being given to the industry, says Pakistan Electric Power Company Managing Director Rasul Khan Mehsud. While talking to TheNation on Sunday, he added that the common people should bear the difficulties in the interest of the countrys economy. Have you seen any protest of the labourers against load shedding across the country since I took the charge of the PEPCO MD, he said, maintaining that we have to take hard decision for the sake of our national interests. He said that he was clear in his mind in this regard and that the PEPCO would carry on supplying electricity to industrial units to 'continue the bread and butter of the thousands of industrial workers also. He went on saying: the industrial production went up at the historical rate, the actions speak louder. However, Mr Mahsud assured that the situation for domestic sector would also improve soon as according to him the oil and gas supply to power plants would be improved after two days. To a question regarding electricity defaulters of billion of rupees, he said the PEPCO had adopted zero tolerance policy for defaulters. Meanwhile, the PEPCOs figures showed the slight decrease in the electricity shortfall. On Sunday, the power generation went up against the fall in electricity demand across the country. The National Grid was facing 4,365 MW shortfall as compared to the above 5,000 MW during the last couple of days. The electricity demand also went down 17,843MW, which was observed over 19,000MW on Friday. The IPPs were giving good performance and shared 5,900MW for the energy basket, however, the thermal and hydel generation was not satisfactory.
