PPP Sindh wont let party topnotch accept MQM demand

ISLAMABAD - Although President Asif Ali Zardari has once again made tones of promises with Muttahida Qaumi Movement including the acceptance of their longstanding demand on fate of Local Government system in the province yet, sources in the party, said the PPP Sindh chapter will not let the party high command do so. In the light of the background interviews with the party leaders and the sources-based information, it could safely be said that the current move by President Asif Ali Zardari to woo back MQM would be no more than a time gaining tactics as he could not accept the demand of keeping the dictator-crafted District Nazim system intact in Karachi and some other big cities in the provinces including Hyderabad. Sources in the party informed that the PPP Sindh chapter on a number of occasions had opposed the restoration of District Government system in the province, particularly in Karachi and Hyderabad on the demand of MQM.Later, a core committee comprising PPP, MQM and ANP was constituted to hammer out differences between the three stakeholders on the fate and future of Local Government system in the province but despite several meetings they could not reach consensus. In the meantime, MQM continued pressurising government to accept its demands on restoration of District Government system in the province and if it was not possible then at least introduce this system of governance at grass-root level in big cities like Karachi and Hyderabad keeping in view the marvellous performance of this system in Karachi. Sources further said that with the introduction of commissionerate system in Sindh the old five districts of Karachi were restored while the delimitation of Hyderabad bifurcating it into two districts was also reverted back to its old district status.
