OUR STAFF REPORTER LAHORE - The Farmer Organisations (FOs) established by the Punjab Irrigation and Drainage Authority (PIDA) in the Area Water Boards have collected a sum of Rs 1114 million from the farmers as Abiana. This was informed in a meeting chaired by General Manager (Operations) Ch Karamat Ali. Deputy GM (Operation) Mian Muhammad Javed, DGM (SM), Shaiq Hussain Abdi and Managers (Operation) of area water boards attended the meeting. The meeting was informed that farmers were taking keen interest in the management of canals and this has helped to improve the service delivery. In the pilot Area Water Board of Lower Chenab Canal Circle (East), Rs 684 million have been collected while in Lower Chenab Canal (West) Circle the collected amount was Rs 332 million. Similarly, FOs in Bahawalnagar Canal Circle collected Rs 93 million, Derajat Canal Circle Rs 11 million and Lower Jehlum Canal Circle Rs 35 million. The meeting was further told that the water supply at tail ends of the distributaries during Rabi Crop season remained 100 per cent as per authorised discharge in the Area Water Board of LCC (East).
