CM wants speedy transition to 1979 Local Govt law



KARACHI - The Sindh government Tuesday directed the local government department to speedily process the transition of working of the local government system from abolished 2001 Ordinance to the revived law of 1979 Ordinance.Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah on Tuesday while presiding over a meeting regarding Local Government department at CM House issued these directions and said that the 1979 Local Government Ordinance was intact and working in the province. Sindh Minister for Local Government Agha Siraj Durrani, Sindh Finance Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, Secretary to CM Muhammad Siddique Memon, Secretary Local Government Lala Fazalur Rehman and Secretary Finance Naveed Kamran Baloch and others attended the meeting.It may be noted that the transition period of the local government system has been extended further two months, so that working of district governments could be fully transformed into the 1979 Ordinance from the 2001 local government system which has been abolished. According to the official statement issued from the CM House, the meeting discussed matters pertaining to various local councils, their administrative and financial issues. The chief minister directed that prompt ways and means must be evolved so that the issues faced by the districts are resolved effectively.Meanwhile, Taraqi Pasand Students Federation former central president Nawab Laghari Tuesday called on Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah at CM House. He expressed his full confidence in the leadership of President and PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari, Qaim Ali Shah and programme, manifesto and policies of the party. He announced his joining of Pakistan People’s Party. The chief minister welcomed Nawab Leghari in PPP and appreciated his spirit of following the programme and polices of the party. EBAD FOR EXPEDITING WORK ON LDA HOUSING SCHEMES: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan has directed that pace of work on the housing schemes under the Lyari Development Authority be speeded up.He was presiding over a meeting regarding the LDA activities at the Governor House here on Tuesday.Ebad said that apart from the ongoing schemes, effective steps be also undertaken for new housing facilities.He instructed that water and electricity be made available at New Malir Housing projects so that the people could start building their houses.The governor also directed the encroachments be removed in collaboration with the Ant-Encroachment Cell. He instructed that the commercial plots be auctioned as early as possible.During the briefing, the governor was informed that at the scheme a solar energy plant would be installed so as to provide electricity to the entire locality. Ishrat was pleased to learn that with regard to plots, 90 per cent of the amount has been received.He directed that the development work at the scheme should be completed at the earliest.
