ISLAMABAD - The Islamabad High Court (IHC) will resume hearing of a case of abduction of a spokesperson of Hizb ut-Tahrir (HT) Naveed But on Wednesday (today).

The Islamabad High Court while hearing the same case on 16 July, 2012 directed Inspector General of Punjab police to appear before the court in person and bring Naveed But along with him on July 25. Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui of Islamabad High Court (IHC), while directing Inspector General (IG), Punjab police, to appear before the court on July 25 along with the missing HT spokesperson Naveed Butt, warned him of strict action for not complying with court orders.

During last hearing of the case, SP Investigation Ijaz Shafi Dogar and Station House Officer (SHO) of the Liaqut Abad Police Station, Muhammad Younis, appeared before the court and contended that they tried their best to locate the detenu but could not found him out.

Justice Siddiqui then told the police officials to be prepared for going to jail in case they don’t produce the missing person on the next date of hearing.

Earlier, family of missing person alleged that officials of Inter Services Intelligence kidnapped Naveed But. However, Ministry of Defence, in its reply before the court, had submitted that the missing person was not in the custody of either Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) or the Military Intelligence (MI).

During the course of hearing, Butt’s counsel Umar Hayyat Sindhu apprised the bench that his client had been missing from Lahore for the last one month and all the law enforcement agencies were denying his detention.

On this, SP Investigation Aijaz Shafee apprised the court that police were making efforts to locate Naveed and present the record of the steps taken so far. However, the bench expressed displeasure over the report and directed the SP to produce him by July 16.
