Punjab govt mulls writing letter to Centre






LAHORE - Punjab government is mulling writing a letter to the Federal government for initiating action against Punjab Inspector General of Police Haji Habibur Rahman in light of the observations made by the Supreme Court in the Khanewal murder case of a woman through the verdict of a panchayat (Village Council).
The Supreme Court has observed that killing of Maryam Bibi on the order of a Village Council speaks volumes of the sheer negligence of the police as such has sought action against the Inspector General of Police, RPO, DSP and the SHO of the police station concerned within three days ,otherwise, the court will itself take action. In light of the SC statement, some officers concerned like RPO Multan, DPO Multan, DSP Saddar Circle, Khanewal and SHO of the police station concerned have been suspended on the charges of negligence.
Official sources said that Punjab govt is mulling writing a letter to the Federal Government requesting for action against the Inspector General of Police Punjab in light of the SC observations as he has been appointed by the Centre.  Sources stated that the letter may be written on Wednesday (today).
