LAHORE – A 25-year-old youth was knocked down when an unidentified car struck his motorbike at Babu Sabu Interchange in the Sherakot police area on Tuesday.
Police said the youth, yet to be identified, while riding a motorbike was hit by a car from the rear side. Subsequently, he sustained multiple injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital where the doctors pronounced him dead.
The body of the deceased was removed to the City morgue for autopsy. Citizens with the information about this traffic accident have been requested to share details with Sherakot Police Station. A case has been registered against the unknown driver with no arrest until filing of this report.
FIRE INCIDENT: Plastic toys and valuables worth thousands of rupees were reduced to ashes when fire erupted at a local store in the Township police area on Tuesday. A rescuer said the fire erupted at a store situated near Allah Hu Chowk and was controlled in time. No loss of life was reported in the incident.
GAMBLERS HELD: At least 12 gamblers, including a notorious proclaimed offender, were rounded up by Saddar Police Division on Tuesday. According to the details, 11 gamblers were held when Satu Katla police raided on a tip-off, recovering betting money, cell phones and other valuables from the possession of the accused. Police have booked the gamblers and further investigation is underway.
Similarly, Chung police apprehended a proclaimed offender, Muhammad Azam alias Aju of Chung, on Tuesday. Azam was pronounced as a proclaimed offender about six years ago in connection with a case (61/12) under sections 7-ATA, 148, 149, 380 and 452. Police have started investigation against him.
ANTI-ENCROACHMENT DRIVE: On the directions of DIG National Highways and Motorway Police (NH&MP), N-5 Central have launched a special anti-encroachment campaign, in collaboration with the National Highway Authority (NHA) and local police, to remove temporary and permanent encroachments on the national highway from Lahore to Rahim Yar Khan.
DIG Rai Altaf Hussain instructed the officers of N-5 Central Zone to remove encroachments on national highways. These encroachments by the local people have become hurdles in smooth flow of traffic and also cause many accidents.
Under the supervision of SSP Central-I Mirza Faran Baig, a special team headed by CPO / DSP Khalil Ahmed has also removed more than 70 permanent encroachments on national highway N-5 Central from Thokar Niaz Baig to Manga Mandi.
During the campaign, many stumbling stalls, hampers, commercial boards and ovens of chappar hotels have been removed from the highways, particularly those illegally installed in the Chung, Sundar, Shamkey Bhattian and Manga Mandi areas.
