Paying tax made easy

This is in reference to MrNaeemSadiq’s letter in today’s issue of The Nation. The writer has very adequately narrated his point of view but I would like to add just a few more points. It is not at all difficult these days to collect taxes. For example, one can deposit a utility bill in almost every bank, then why not taxes? Why should people in this modern era of technology have to go to the main office of Excise & Taxation or few designated branches of a certain bank, when it can be so easily done by SMS or at any bank? Therefore, the taxation departments of all the provinces should authorize all banks to take taxes.
As far as the private and commercial vehicles in the province of Sindh are concerned, there is absolutely no need for a `Tax Token Sticker’ (which is to be pasted on the wind screen showing the date of expiry) as many other provinces do not issue such tokens or stickers. The retired government officers and widows should be given at least a 50% discount on motor vehicle and property tax. The cantonment gives discounts to the serving and retired government officers, pensioners and their widows on house tax. This is indeed a good gesture showing respect for people who have spent the majority of their lives serving the country.
