Fawad Alam and Sohail Tanvir set a new record for the eighth wicket position for Pakistan in one-day internationals by putting 100 runs in the Asia Cup match against Hong Kong at National Stadium, Karachi on Tuesday (June 24). Mohammed Yousuf and Shoaib Akhtar who added 92 runs against Australia at Karachi on November 6,1998 held the previous record for Pakistan for this wicket position in limited overs international cricket. They also surpassed Ajay Jadeja and Ajit Agarkar's Asia Cup record for this wicket position. The Indian pair added 52 runs against Pakistan at Dhaka on June 3,2000. It was sixth century partnership for the eighth wicket in limited overs international cricket. Mohammed Ashraful became the first Bangladeshi and 14th batsman overall to score a hundred in Asia Cup. The Bangladeshi skipper achieved this feat by scoring 109 runs off 126 balls with eight fours against United Arab Emirates at Gaddafi Satdium, Lahore on Tuesday (June 24). Javed Omar who scored an unbeaten 85 off 146 balls with three fours and a six against Sri Lanka at Dhaka on May 28,2000, held the previous record of highest individual score for Bangladesh in Asia Cup. Mohammed Ashraf's 109 was also his highest individual score in limited overs cricket. His previous best was 100 off 101 balls with 11 fours against Australia at Cardiff on June 18,2005. It was 18th century in Asia Cup. Sri Lankan Santah Jayasuriya has scored four hundreds while Sourav Ganguly scored two centuries in this championship.
