43 terrorists arrested in Islamabad, Lahore

ISLAMABAD/LAHORE - Inspector General of Police Syed Kaleem Imam has said that Capital Police have arrested 25 terror suspects including six wanted terrorists, whereas some others have also been held from Lahore and Karachi on the information revealed by these accused. The IGP while talking to media persons here at a camp organised for administrating anti-polio drops to the children on Wednesday said that police had made elaborate and comprehensive security arrangements in the federal capital in the wake of Swat operation. He said that police also recovered suicide jackets and explosive material from their possession, adding those terrorists wanted to carry out attacks in major cities of the country. He made an appeal to the citizens to extend their full cooperation to police in identifying the anti-social elements so that protection of life and property of the citizens could be ensured by taking prompt action against miscreants. He added that community would be provided full protection and police would ensure their safety. Meanwhile, the Punjab police arrested 18 terrorists and suicide bombers from various areas of the province in a massive crackdown and recovered suicide jackets from their possession. As per reports, some arrests were made on the secret info of an arrested terrorist Muhammad Zubair alias Naik Muhammad who was involved in the deadly attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team. Out of these terrorists, 13 were wanted by the police for their involvement in the suicide and armed attacks on Police Training School Manawan Lahore, Mianwali Check Post, Sri Lankan Cricket Team, Rawalpindi Peer Wadhai attack and suicide attack on mourners procession in DG Khan. The other five arrested terrorists identified as Shahbaz Ali Khalid alias Abdullah, Shujaat Ali alias Tikka, Muhammad Akhtar Naeem alias Shah Jee, Said Ahmad alias Mujahid and Qari Muhammad Arshad were planning to commit the acts of terrorism in the province. The other terrorists arrested by the Punjab police are identified as Qari Asim, Muhammad Zubair, Rizwan Mehmood, Rizwan Abdul Qadir, Qari Sanaullah, Hijratullah alias Shakirullah alias Pattanga alias Sher Khan, Muhammad Zubair alias Naik Muhammad, Malik Naeem Haider alias Waqas alias Vikki alias Haji, Ghulam Mustafa Qaisrani, Qari Muhammad Ismail, Saleem Zaman, Abdul Hayee and Abdullah alias Ghazali. Meanwhile, Inspector General of Police Punjab Tariq Saleem Dogar in a high-level meeting held on Wednesday reviewed the steps being taken for the eradication of terrorism and extremism in the province and underlined the need for making the same more effective. The meeting was informed that an integrated and intensive strategy was being implemented for combating terrorism across the province as a result of which as many as 18 terrorists and suicide bombers have so far been nabbed at the various places of the province during the last one and half month. The meeting was also informed that some were planning for terrorist activities and suicide attacks while the other terrorists were wanted by the Punjab police for being involved in various incidents of terrorism in the province.
