Deputy Superintendent of Traffic Police Amanullah was gunned down along with his driver by unidentified armed assailants in Peshawar on Monday.

Police said the DSP was on way to office from his house on Dalazak Road when his vehicle was targeted in Faqeer Abad Police jurisdiction. Amanullah and his driver sustained multiple bullet injuries on head and abdominal region and they succumbed to the wounds on way to Lady Reading Hospital. Heavy contingent of police immediately reached the crime scene and they started search operation and apprehended several suspects. SP traffic Asif Iqbal told the media that there were no direct threats to DSP Amanullah. Born on December 28, 1953, Amanullah joined Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police in 1985 as a constable. In December 1988 he was promoted as Head Constable, in 1999 as Assistant Sub-Inspector, in 1993 as SHO, in 1997 as Sub-Inspector and in 2007 as Inspector. In June 2010 he was shoulder promoted as DSP.
