Terming the Fairy Meadows incident as worst threat to the national security, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has ordered interior minister to ensure arrest of the terrorists involved in the killing of nine foreign tourists along with their Pakistani guide and cook.

While chairing the federal cabinet meeting here on Monday, Premier Sharif said that attack on tourists was the worst act of terrorism against national sovereignty. He vowed to deal with all those involved in tarnishing the country’s image with an iron hand. The cabinet put aside its scheduled agenda and focused on Gilgit killings and termed it as national tragedy.

The Prime Minister directed the interior minister to have consultations with the provinces for formulating a policy to eliminate terrorism. Concrete measures should be taken to provide protection to the foreign tourists, he added.

The interior minister gave detailed briefing to the cabinet members on the incident and said that efforts are under way to nab the terrorists. He said one of the guides who is alive is being interrogated. He said there are reports that terrorists approached the tourist camp through a guide who provided them necessary information. The cabinet discussed overall law and order situation in the country with special reference to recent terror attacks. The cabinet also appreciated Pakistan Army for saving one Chinese tourist in Saturday attack.
