CJ reaches court to get judge ‘released’

Lahore High Court Chief Justice Manzoor Ahmad Malik had to reach here to get unlocked a court wherein an additional district and sessions judge was locked up by a lawyer and his colleagues for cancelling the bail of his client here on Wednesday.
According to a report, Imran Tatla Advocate had appeared in the court of AD&SJ Khizar Hayat Gondal and argued regarding a bail petition of his client in the court. After hearing the arguments the court rejected the plea which infuriated the said lawyer. The lawyer called his other colleagues and during their presence exchange hot words with the judge why he had cancelled the bail. Later, the lawyer accompanied by other colleagues locked court room of the AD&SJ.
The LHC chief justice after knowing the incident through media accompanied by other senior judges including Sardar Tariq Masood, Syed Mansoor Ali Shah and registrar Habibullah Aamir reached the court and got it unlocked.
Meanwhile, the local judges including District and Sessions Judge Uzma Chughtai also reached on the spot. In the bar room, the chief justice described the Sheikhupura Bar a historical in the province which created prominent judges. He, however, said there were only 2 to 3 percent elements in the lawyers community which were maligning the atmosphere of the bar and the judiciary. “We should jointly make efforts to eliminate such elements so the bar and the bench could function smoothly,” he said.
On the occasion, he directed the district and sessions judge Sheikhupura to submit a report of the incident shortly. The bar president and other office-bearers assured the chief justice that a strict action would be taken against the lawyer involved in the incident and in this connection an inquiry report be submitted to the CJ soon.
DEATH SENTENCE: District and Sessions Judge Muhammad Yar Wallana awarded on Wednesday death sentence to one Muhammad Shafiq of Bakhshi Park in a murder case while court also ordered him to pay Rs 400,000 as compensation to the heirs of deceased. The court acquitted his three co-accused Shabbir, Asif and Arshad giving them benefit of doubt. Convict Shafiq had killed two year ago with sharp weapon to Qamar Abbas to take revenge of murder of his (Shafiq’s) father.
VISIT: Special Secretary Agriculture during his visit to Ramazan bazaars in city along with DCO Kiran Khurshid took serious notice of some shortcomings and ordered to suspend Secretary Market Committee Nasrullah Joiya for negligence in performance of his duties.
