Customs, ACE big guns fired over smuggling, fraud

Collector Customs Sialkot Zulfiqar Ali removed In-charge Anti Smuggling Squad Sardar Manzur Ahmed and inspector Aamir Shafiq from their posts due to their bad performance and allegedly remaining failed in controlling the smuggling in Gujranwala Division from the Afghanistan, India, China and other countries.
The collector appointed Deputy Superintendent Muhammad Irfan as In-charge Anti Smuggling Squad with immediate effect and with new anti smuggling targets.
Likewise, Director Anti Corruption Establishment (ACE) Shehzad Saeed stopped ACE’s assistant director technical branch Muhammad Ahmed and sub engineer Amjad Mehmood from doing work terminating reader circle officer (headquarters) Mehdi Khan and head constable Sajjad Khan (Sialkot) from their jobs, following their developed links with the corrupt people to take bribe in different cases.
The director said that the ACE also got conducted a secret inquiry against the above-mentioned ACE officials, following the corruption complaints against them. He added that the secret inquiries proved them guilty in several corruption cases.
He recommended stern legal and departmental action against the accused assistant director Muhammad Ahmed and sub engineer Amjad Mehmood. He asked them to report to the office of Director General of Anti Corruption Establishment (ACE) Punjab.
According to the Director ACE Shehzad Saeed, the accused had filed several inquiries by using their departmental influence, besides, providing maximum relief to corrupt officials after getting perks and bribe from them. PROPERTIES SEALED: The Excise and Taxation Department sealed 300 properties for non-payment of property tax. It impounded 211 vehicles for not paying their token taxes during a crackdown launched in Gujranwala city’s congested and posh People’s Colony, Model Town, Satellite Town, Wapda Town and also in Gujranwala Division.
The E&T teams also displayed defaulter notices on all the sealed 300 properties, besides seizing the registration documents of 147 different vehicles. The E&T teams also sealed 24 small houses of 3.5 marlas each in Y Block of People’s Colony Gujranwala, as the houses till 5 marlas were exempted from the payment of the property tax by the Punjab government.
On the other hand, the E&T teams led by Deputy Director Rana Arshad also impounded 842 different vehicles for non-payment of their token taxes while setting special pickets on almost all the main Chowks in Gujrat city during a general hold up there.
SUMMONS: Social Security Department has sent the recovery cases to the court of special judicial magistrate for the recovery of the prolonged arrears of Rs6.5 million as social security taxes from 53 commercial institutions. including bricks kilns companies, private hospitals, rice mills and schools, which had the employees without their registration with the social security department.
The court of special judicial magistrate Saleem Malik issued the arrest warrants of the owners of these 53 different commercial institutes and has also summoned the accused owners to appear before this court on July 07, 2015, for the recovery of outstanding dues of Rs. 6.5 million as the social security taxes from them , in this regard.
