LAHORE - The Lahore High Court Wednesday issued notice to the Punjab government in a petition seeking directions to make functional Institute of Cardiology in Wazirabad which was constructed during Ch Parvez Elahi’s tenure.

Tehrik-e-Insaf Lawyers Wing Punjab senior vice president Gohar Nawaz Sindhu had filed the petition submitting that the building of the institute had been completed and for few months emergency services was also started but the government stopped it and was not providing funds to the institute.

He said the government neither appointed any doctors or any supporting staff for the institute because of which the heart patients had to go to other cities for treatment. He said in such a situation, chances of deaths for the heart patients are maximum for that area.

He said the government stopped its functioning because it was approved and its construction was started during Ch Parvez Elahi’s tenure and the present PML-N government does not want to give credit of the hospital to the former government. He said because of this attitude of the present government, the people are suffering.

He prayed the court to issue funds for the hospital and make it functional as soon as possible.

After hearing the arguments of the petitioner’s counsel, Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah of the LHC directed the government to file its report on July 07, the next date of hearing.
