RTI in our best interest

Freedom of Information (RTI) is not an easy phenomenon to understand in the current political scenario. Consider banning Youtube; one could argue that displaying blasphemous content is totally wrong but the fact of the matter is that the website provides much more than that. However, the situation remains unresolved up till now. Taking that into consideration, we talk about the Right to Information law, which allows citizens fair and equal rights in challenging the work of the government. Yes, it is a major breakthrough, a powerful weapon for the common man but whether it works in its true sense is unknown. Having information is one thing but that will be of little use if it does not promote accountability, curb irregularities and help facilitate decision making. The RTI must work in the best interest of the people rather than being showcased as a law with little or no tangible value.
