NEW YORK - A US-based Pakistani civil rights organisation Wednesday expressed sympathy with the victims of the deadly heatwave in Karachi, and urged the government to step up its relief efforts.

"Our hearts go out for the suffering people of Karachi. They are in our thoughts," Comrade Shahid, Secretary-General of the Pakistan-USA Freedom Forum [PUFF], said in a statement.

He said Pakistan-Americans would play their part in efforts to provide succor to those affected by the blistering heat.

Comrade Shahid also said that PUFF would hold a rally in front of the Pakistani Consulate General in New York demanding intensification of relief efforts, saying the Sindh government had failed in its duty.
