LAHORE  - Investigations police Wednesday claimed to have smashed two gangs of robbers by arresting their nine members involved in several armed robberies and auto-snatching. The police have recovered national and foreign currency and other valuables worth 10.5 million rupees from their possession.

Lahore Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Muhammad Amin Wains while addressing a press conference here at Police Lines Qila Gujjar Singh on Wednesday further revealed that the accused, during preliminary investigations, have admitted more than 80 incidents of armed robberies. SSP (Investigation) Rana Ayaz Saleem was also present on this occasion. The bandits used to chase citizens after they left moneychangers and banks. “They were involved in dozens of incidents of looting the passengers of international flights as well,” the Lahore police chief said.

The arrested bandits, disguised as security personnel and clad in uniforms of FIA, used to rob the motorists at gunpoint. They used to start chasing the passengers of international flights as they leave the airport premises for their native towns.

Muhammad Amin Wains further said that three accused of Tiger Gang namely Akhtar Hussain alias Tiger, Aslam Khan and Ali Javed are habitual criminals and their entire families are involved in dacoity and looting whereas the other members of the gang have also committed similar crimes in Greece and Italy, where they were jailed.

“In this way, it is an international gang of robbers,” he added. He said that the father of the accused Sher Khan is also in Adiyala Jail due to drugs trafficking whereas women members of this family are also involved in crimes.

The Sattu Katla police have recovered two cars dollars, pounds, Saudi Riyals and Pakistan currency, mobile phones, I-Pads, bogus identity cards, number-plates and illegal weapons from their possession.

The CCPO also said that the accused were arrested due to the joint efforts of SP Investigation Sadar Amara Ather and SP Civil Lines Investigation Faisal Mukhtar and their teams. The CCPO said that SP Investigation Model Town and his team have arrested six dangerous dacoits of Ashraf alias Achu Odh gang namely Ashraf alias Achu, Javed Iqbal alias Jaida, Afzaal Ahmed alias Jala, Muhammad Irfan, Liaqat Ali and Safdar alias Ghora. The city police chief also informed that the accused admitted more than 50 incidents of dacoity, robbery and vehicle-snatching that they had committed in Lahore, Kasur, Sheikhupura and Okara districts.

Replying to a question about the investigation of a fake police encounter in Nawab Town, the CCPO said that not only a letter had been written for judicial inquiry of the incident but police will also investigate this case on merit and if any police official is found guilty, legal action will be taken against him.
