Rawalpindi - Minister Counsellor for Economic Affairs of the US Embassy in Islamabad, Daniela Ballarad and some other officers of the embassy had a ride of Metro bus from Pak Secretariat, Islamabad, to Saddar, Rawalpindi, here on Wednesday.

Chairman Pakistan Metro Bus Project Implementation Committee and ex-MNA, Muhammad Hanif Abbasi, and Project Director, Commissioner Rawalpindi Zahid Saeed, also accompanied the US diplomats. The Spokesman of US Embassy Steve Castonguay, Economic Officer David Sequeira, Political Officer Elezibeth Frograth and Press Officer Neal Muratan were also among those who had a ride.

Hanif Abbasi and Zahid Saeed welcomed the diplomats when they reached Pak Secretariat station. Saeed briefed the US diplomats about the details of the project and facilities provided to the passengers.

While expressing her views during the bus ride, Daniela Ballarad said that metro bus service is an international standard mass transit system equipped with all modern facilities. She said she is pleased to travel in metro bus and it was a memorable and delightful travelling from Islamabad to Rawalpindi. She said that metro bus service is providing comfortable travelling facilities at very cheap rates to the passengers in respectable way. She said that she was amazed that such a big mega project has been completed in a very short span of time of just twelve months.

She said that this mega project through which common citizens are availing high quality travelling facilities also reflects the government’s efforts for uplifting the standard of citizens in Pakistan.

Hanif Abbasi while briefing the diplomats on the occasion said that Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and Chief Minister Punjab Mian Shahbaz Sharif took keen interest in completion of metro bus project within a period of one year.

He said that travelling of citizens massively through metro bus itself reflected the usefulness, utility and success of this project. Abbasi informed that about 125,000 passengers travel through metro bus daily and the project has also reduced traffic mess on Murree Road to a maximum extent.

Commissioner Rawalpindi Zahid Saeed apprised the US diplomats that there are 24 state-of-the-art metro bus stations on 23-kilometre track of metro bus from Rawalpindi to Islamabad which have all modern facilities including e-ticketing, escalators and elevators. He said each bus covers 23-kilometre distance within 50 minutes. Zahid Saeed further said that metro bus project has also further increased the beauty of Rawalpindi and Islamabad.
