LAHORE - A special division bench of the Lahore High Court (LHC) Wednesday issued contempt of court notice to a lawyer who slapped a civil judge of Faisalabad during court proceedings. The LHC bench summoned Liaqat Ali Javed Advocate to appear before bench on March 25 in a contempt of court reference sent by the district and sessions judge Faisalabad. Earlier, the bench comprising Justice Ijaz Ahmad Chaudhry and Sheikh Azmat Saeed held in camera proceedings into the reference of the sessions judge who gave details regarding misbehaviour of Liaqat Ali Javed Advocate with Civil Judge Faisalabad Tariq Mehmood Kahut. The D&SJ Faisalabad had recommended initiating contempt of court proceedings against the advocate. After the initial hearing, the bench adjourned the matter till March 25 directing the advocate general Punjab to ensure compliance of the courts order. Earlier, LHC Chief Justice Khawaja Muhammad Sharif took suo moto notice of the incident. The CJ constituted two-member bench comprising Justice Ijaz Chaudhry and Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed for hearing the contempt of court reference. The LHC directed the DPO Faisalabad to make it sure that courts order is executed and the accused lawyer is produced before the court. It is pertinent to mention the incident took place when Liaqat Javed Advocate was making arguments in the court of Civil Judge Tariq Mehmood. After exchanging harsh words with the judge, the lawyer slapped him.
