'Ensure ban on smoking at public places'

LAHORE The Punjab government has directed all concerned authorities to ensure ban earlier imposed on smoking at public places some five years ago through a law. Chief Secretary Punjab, Nasir Mahmood Khosa in writing has directed all secretaries, DCOs, DPOs and other concerned officers for implementing ban on smoking, say sources. They said officers have been reminded that smoking was prohibited during office timings in the government, non-government departments including schools, colleges, universities, hospitals, police-stations, courts and other public places therefore its implementation must be ensured in letter and spirit. The Chief Secretary also took note of non-observance of the said ban and required the authorities to affix notices on prominent places to check smoking in the public including public transports. Strict action has been sought as per law, against violation of the ban.
