GUJRAT - Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz candidate Haji Imran Zafar emerged winner against PML-Qs Mian Imran Masood in a neck-to-neck battle in PP-111 constituency of Gujrat on Wednesday, according to the unofficial results. Imran Zafar won by a narrow margin after getting 25,020 votes against his Imran Masood, who stood second by securing 22,466 votes. The victory sparked celebrations in Gujrat, where jubilant PML-N workers chanted slogans against their rival party and distributed sweets. Meanwhile, PML-Q leader Ch Pervaiz Elahi accused his rivals of rigging in the by-election. Meanwhile, Pervaiz Elahi, who along with other 'Q leaders Ch Wajahat Hussain and Ch Moonis Elahi, monitored the polling procedure, levelled allegations of pre-poll rigging against six employees of Special Branch Gujranwala deputed at various polling booths. Criticising the PML-N-led government, Pervaiz said that the government had spent all its funds in this constituency for nothing. Public grievances could not be addressed by utilising public exchequer on election campaigns, he added. Earlier, the workers of both parties scuffled at Commerce College Road polling station but the law-enforcement agencies overcame the situation. The Elite Force, Punjab Constabulary and police of Gujranwala, Sialkot and Gujrat have been deployed to maintain the law and order in the constituency. The Rangers have been deployed on 13 polling stations on the request of Imran Masood, the candidate of PML-Q. Monitoring Desk adds: On the other hand, Samiullah Alizai of PPP won the by-election for PF-65 constituency against JUI-Fs Maulana Lutfullah, brother of JUI-F leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman, reported a private TV cahnnel. According to unofficial results, Alizai obtained 24,227 votes while Lutfullah got 20,210 votes.
