LAHORE - Pukhtoonkhawa-Abaseen is likely to be approved as the new name of the NWFP, while the chiefs of PML-N and ANP are likely to meet on Thursday (today) in Islamabad to give a green signal to the new identity of the Frontier province. ANP insiders privy to the developments about renaming the NWFP told this scribe on Wednesday that Nawaz Sharif and Asfandyar Wali Khan would meet before attending meetings of their respective parties being organised to give a go-head to the new name of the province. It is said that committees of ANP and PML-N had almost reached a consensus on the new name of Pukhtoonkhawa-Abaseen few days back and reported the matter to the high commands of their respective parties chiefs. ANP called an emergency meeting in Islamabad for today while PML-N also summoned a meeting in the federal capital for the same day. Asfandyar Wali and Nawaz Sharif would chair the meetings of their respective parties. Both the leaders were also expected to address a joint news conference in this regard. ANP proposed Pukhtoonkhawa, Pukhtoonistan and Afghania as new names for the NWFP. While, the PML-N at the beginning, with the consultation of political forces proposed Abaseen and Khyber but the ANP insisted on the name of Pukhtoonkhawa. Later, when both the high commands of ANP and PML-N constituted committees for this purpose, the PML-N with the consultation of other political forces of NWFP agreed to ANPs formula and expressed its willingness to put Pukhtoonkhawa first in any configuration for renaming the NWFP.
