LAHORE - Barrister Syed Muhammad Javaid Iqbal Jaffery has filed a petition in Lahore High Court challenging the appointment of Wajid Shamsul Hasan as High Commissioner of Pakistan to UK. Jaffery contended that the appointment of Wajid Shamsul Hassan was based on nepotism and thus it was unconstitutional. He said there was no discretion in any such case and even the highest positions must be filled through constitutional procedure. The post must be widely advertised publicly before the appointment was made. Barrister Jaffrey stated that he had applied for appointment as High Commissioner during two Prime Ministerships of Nawaz Sharif as well as Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, and for the discrimination shown each time, he was suing for compensation as well. He said the patronage appointments of Pakistans Ambassadors caused untold ignominy, disgrace and erosion of quality.
