The world’s biggest ever deckchair has been displayed on Bournemouth beach. Unveiled on Friday, the chair is taller than a double-decker bus and weighs more than an elephant.
With temperatures set to soar in the south-east this weekend, tourists and locals will be allowed to sit on the huge seat.
Creator Stuart Murdoch spent three weeks building the structure after being commissioned by Pimm’s to mark the beginning of the British summer. The 57-year-old is quoted by Metro as saying: “It has been fantastic to see people on the beach pointing at the chair and having their photo taken with it. “Deckchairs are so quintessentially British - everyone who has seen it has smiled and it’s great to watch people drawn to it like a magnet.” –OS
