SIALKOT - The Begowala Police have registered a case against five members of a local panchayat including a woman for shaving head, eyebrows and moustaches of a youth and parading him in streets of villages Doburji Chanda Singh-Begowala here Sambrial tehsil the other day.

According to the details, local influential persons including Numberdar Rizwanul Haq held a Punchayat (local jury) in the village and announced shaving the head, eyebrows and moustaches of 26-year-old Ali Riaz as a punishment for levelling, what “they called” baseless allegations of bad character against a local married woman Mussarat Bibi. The jurists decided that the youth and his family had levelled baseless allegations against her and later they could not prove it. The jurists termed the man guilty and forcibly got his head, eyebrows and moustaches shaved by the village’s barber Sultan Ahmed. Later, they also paraded the victim in the village streets and ordered the victim and his family to leave the village.

On the report of victim Ali Raza’s father Riaz Malik, the Begowala Police have registered a case (No. 70/2013) under section 337-V/500 PPC against the jury head Numberdar Rizwanul Haq, village’s barber Sultan Ahmed, Zafar Sharif and Mussarat Bibi.

When contacted, Sambrial DSP Muhammad Nawaz told the newsmen that the police teams were raiding various places to arrest the accused.
