KARACHI – Karachi Metropolitan Corporation Administrator Syed Hashim Raza Zaidi has instructed the local tax department to improve its recovery and those defaulters not paying outstanding dues their licences be cancelled and disciplinary action taken against them.

These directives to Local Taxes Director Masood Alam by the administrator came during a meeting held on Sunday.

The administrator said that advertisers should be provided with a last chance, and if they failed to pay their dues, disciplinary actions against them should be started.

He said those companies having their sign boards installed within jurisdictions of the KMC should pay their outstanding dues. A last chance is being given to them, he said while observing KMC resources could be improved through bettering the recovery system.

He said every citizen should pay dues on time for cleanliness of the city, improvement of infrastructure, construction of roads, renovation of parks and play grounds and development projects. Especially those organisations and people who were related to business should immediately pay their dues.

The administrator said all departments concerned should improve their performance for recovery of taxes, so that along with timely payments of salaries of employees, development projects could be completed and new projects started.

On this occasion, the Local Taxes director presented a report on taxes and arrears, collected in three years, and also gave a briefing in this respect. He informed the meeting that a recovery campaign was being started immediately and disciplinary action against defaulters would be taken.

He said advertisers were directed that in case of any difficulty they could directly contact him and their problems would be resolved right away.

He said that different teams were formed for improving recovery of local taxes. He also assured the administrator for achieving objectives of the department.
