KHANEWAL - The Pakistan People’s Party suffered another blow in Khanewal district as its MNA from NA-159 Ch Iftikhar Nazir and former National Assembly speaker Syed Fakhar Imam joined the PML-N.

Ch Iftikhar Nazir was elected from NA-159 Jahanian by defeating PML-Q candidates Murtza Matila. While addressing the reporters here, he claimed that he had joined the PML-N unconditionally and would follow the decision of party leadership regarding nomination of candidates from his constituency.

On the other hand, re-joining of former NA speaker Syed Fakhar Imam has raised questions in the political circles of NA-156 as his real cousin Dr Khawar Ali Shah is a strong candidate for the PML-N ticket from the constituency. It will be very difficult for the PML-N leadership to decide the party candidate from this constituency.

In 2008 general elections, PML-Q Raza Hayat Hiraj was elected MNA from the constituency by defeating Syed Fakhar Imam of the PPP. Syed Fakhar Imam and Raza Hayat Hiraj are being considered staunch rivals and both have been elected as MNA twice from this constituency NA-156 Kabirwala.
