TIMERGARA - An awareness walk against TB was arranged by a Non Governmental Organization Relief International in the district on the eve of World TB Day observed every year on March 24.

The participants of the walk with placards and banners in their hands inscribed with awareness and preventive slogans against TB and other fatal diseases, paraded from District Headquarters Hospital to Press Club building.

The walk led by District Manager International Relief Jamal Nasir, Dr Fida, Dr Manzoor Hussain, Dr Hassan, Hashmat Khan and Suleman also addressed the participants and said that TB was a curable disease if it was diagnosed in time.  They said that by adopting preventive measures we can reduce the spread of diseases from animals to man and vice versa.

They said that to stop the disease we have to keep our environment clean. They said that awareness programmes have to be launched in schools to make aware the students about these diseases.

District Manager International Relief Jamal Nasir said that all stakeholders in TB control in Pakistan will need to accelerate the fight against TB in order to hopefully secure a TB free country for children.

He said that, TB Day is designed to build public awareness that TB remains an epidemic in much of the world, causing the deaths of several million people each year, mostly in developing countries.

According to WHO estimates, 418,000 TB cases occur in Pakistan every year, with an incidence of 231 per 100,000.

PML-N leaders announces not to contest polls

Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) PML-N Senior Leader Arbab Khizer Hayat on Sunday said that he would not contest election on either of Provincial or National Assembly.

Talking to the media here, Khizer said he would continue to serve the party and would participate in electioneering of the PML-N’s candidates.

He said it was because of my personnel reasons and not because of any annoyance with the party or its leadership.

He paid rich tributes to party chief Mian Nawaz Sharif and said he offered me to contest for the National Assembly seat NA-2 Peshawar.

He said he will cooperate with the party candidates in Peshawar specially and province particularly.

Arbab further claimed that people would see a new dawn on May 11 and the PML -N would be the ruling party and Nawaz Sharif would be the prime minister of Pakistan.
