LAHORE - Fresh Fruits and Vegetable Association on Monday sought LCCI help against the Punjab government decision to shift Badami Bagh Fruit and Vegetable Market to Lukhudair.
A 12-member delegation of Fresh Fruits and Vegetable Association led by Hafiz Muhammad Ajmal called on LCCI President Engineer Sohail Lashari and Vice President Kashif Anwar and apprised them of the challenges being faced by the sector.
They were of the view that the proposed place where the Fruits and Vegetable Market was being shifted was inappropriate as it has no other link but the Ring Road and horse-carts like loaders were not allowed to enter the Ring Road.
They suggested that a little expansion in existing Fruits and Vegetable Markets would enable it to cater the needs for next twenty years and there would not be nay need to spending extra money to shift the whole market.
They urged the LCCI office-bearers to convince the Chief Minister Punjab Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif to shelve the plan in the larger interests of over 16000 people attached with fruits and vegetable business.
Speaking on the occasion, the LCCI President Engineer Sohail Lashari said that he would soon be meeting the Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif to bring to his notice the reservations of the business community as far as the development projects were concerned. He said that the infrastructure development being carried out by the Punjab government was quite in line with the growth in the economy however the government would have share their plans with the business community for their unhindered implementation.
He said that all over the world the suggestions and proposals of the business community for the well being of economy were given due consideration therefore the government should also take the business people on board before launching any new project to get desired results.
The LCCI Vice President Kashif Anwar said that the business community appreciates the Chief Minister for turning the province into a hub of business activities but there was a need to expedite the process of consultation with the stakeholders to all development projects.
He said that in the past the policies were made without due consultation of the business community and since the present regime was spending all its energies to meet economic targets therefore it would have to re-establish that important missing link.
