ISLAMABAD (Online) - President Pervez Musharraf has underscored the need for promotion of restraint and tolerance in the politics, saying politics of victimisation can affect national reconciliation process. Musharraf said this while talking to PML-Q chief Ch Shujaat Hussain, opposition leader Ch Pervaiz Elahi and Governor Punjab Suleman Taseer at Presidential Camp Office in Rawalpindi. Well-placed sources told Online that Musharraf has said he wanted the Parliament to complete its constitutional term like the previous assembly. This will be in the interest of the country as well as the democracy. Politics of confrontation can harm democratic institutions, he added. "My doors are open to all political parties and I have no personal grudge with any political leader. I have been repeatedly saying from the very beginning I want working relationship with new government as all the political forces will have to get united to counter the challenges facing the country," he remarked. The sources said PPP-proposed constitutional package also came under discussion during the meeting. PML-Q leadership assured the President that it would oppose any constitutional amendment, which was aimed at clipping his powers. Governor Punjab Salman Taseer also called on the President who congratulated him on assumption of his office. The President directed the Governor to take more steps for the uplift of the province, peace and security and welfare of the people.
