National Electric Power Regulatory Authority has approved tariff of ten main electricity generation projects under Pak-China Corridor, while four projects are in pipeline.
According to the documents, Suki Kinari Hydropower project at Naran is in EPC stage and its tariff was approved on March 28, 2014. Termed as the largest private sector hydropower initiative in the country, it would produce 2,958 GWh annually, and is expected to increase Pakistan’s existing available power generation capacity by more than 5pc. According to PPIB the date of completion of the project is 2021, the PPIB documents show the capacity of the project as 870 MW.
Karot Hydro power station is 720 MW hydel project at Jhelum River, District Rawalpindi. Its feasibility stage tariff was approved on May 29, 2012, and presently determination of EPC stage tariff is under process. The Karot Power Company applied for the EPC stage tariff on April 2, 2015. Two 660 MW Coal Fire Power Plants is another project at Port Qasim Karachi, under the corridor whose upfront tariff has been approved on 13 February 2015. Another two 660 MW coal fire plant has also been approved at Sahiwal, and the upfront tariff has been approved on 31 March 2105. Tariff of Engro Thar coal fired project of 660 MW has also been approved on March this year. Upfront tariff of 100 MW Quaid Azam Solar Park has also been approved while approval of 900 MW Zonergy Project is under process. Hydro Dawood 50 MW Wind Farm at Gharo, Thatta and UEP 100 MW wind farm at Jhampir have also been approved in March this year. Sachal 50 MW wind farm, Jhampir, Thatta, and China-Sunec 50 MW Wind Farm, Jhampir, Thatta have already been approved in 2013 and 2014 respectively. Under Pak-China Corridor, Gwadar Coal Power Project, Muzaffargard (2x660 MW) Coal-firmed power project, Rahim Yar Khan 2x660 MW) Coal power project and Hubco Coal fired power project are still remaining.
