Islamabad: President Mamnoon Hussain has said that Pakistan is desirous of expanding its relations with Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) through robust parliamentary participation in its activities for further strengthening of democracy and democratic institutions in the country.

He was talking to Secretary General IPU Martin Chungong in Islamabad today when he made this statement. The President stated that democracy in Pakistan is firmly entrenched and called for further fostering of partnership between Pakistan and IPU.

The President said that the Parliament of Pakistan would appreciate IPU’s assistance in its capacity building.

The President also urged the Secretary General to ensure presence of Pakistanis in IPU Secretariat, which at present has no participation from Pakistan.
