Charli XCX is a girl who likes to party. Pictures of her in Cannes from earlier this week showed the singer living it up with her musical BFF Rita Ora. But was it messy? We think it might have been.
‘She’s wild, she knows how to party,’ Charli told us backstage at Radio 1’s Big Weekend in Norwich. ‘She is fun, she’s such a great girl - I have so much love and respect for Rita.’ But this wasn’t the only eventful moment of Charli’s Cannes experience. It turns out she had a bit of an awkward moment when her trousers split in public.
‘I was getting off a yacht, as you do, and onto a speedboat to take me back to shore, Charli explained. ‘I’ve never done that before and I split my trousers on the way off! Luckily they were Vivienne Westwood trousers with a skirt over the top so I had a handy flap to hide my butt crack, so thanks Vivienne.’ Radio 1’s Big Weekend provides the chance for musicians to showcase their talents.
And it was no different for Charli XCX on Saturday as she performed an energetic set at the two-day event wearing a zebra-inspired two-piece.
With her dark hair left tousled around her shoulders and a slick of shocking pink lipstick, the 22-year-old looked fierce as she took to the stage in Norwich.
She completed her look with a pair of dark sunglasses, which she kept firmly in place hiding her eyes, and some strappy black sandals. The Boom Clap hitmaker kept the crowd entertained as she danced around the stage and threw her arms in the air.
She wrote on Twitter on Saturday morning: ‘So excited to be back in the uk!! i’m playing @BBCR1 #bigweekend today. She accompanied the tweet with dozens of pictures of the Union Jack and a small red heart. The performance also comes less than two days after Charli - real name Charlotte Emma Aitchison - appeared at the amfAR gala in Cannes.
