LAHORE: Fulbright scholar from Kennesaw State University, Georgia, USA Dr. Matt Duffy has called upon the need to form a global code of media ethics to combat instances of social injustices.
He was addressing a seminar on “Role of Journalism that serves Public Good” organized by Punjab University Institute of Social and Cultural Studies in collaboration with the US State Department here on Wednesday. Dean Faculty of Behavioral and Social Sciences Prof Dr Zakria Zakir, Ms. Rachael Chen, Public Affairs Officer from the US Consulate General Lahore, Mr. Jamal Ghazanfar, senior faculty members and a large number of students were present on the occasion.
Addressing the seminar, Dr Duffy gave a detailed lecture on how journalism could play role in highlighting social issues of injustice, corruption and intolerance. He said that journalists were facing different kinds of challenges worldwide. In the welcome address, Professor Dr Zakria Zakar thanked Ms. Rachael Chen for her efforts to materialize Pakistan-United States University Partnership program sponsored by US Embassy Islamabad.
Dr. Zakar also acknowledged the great contribution of Ms. Chen in providing various capacity building opportunities for professional development of the faculty of Punjab University. It may be mentioned that PU is currently a partner with Arizona State University, USA in development studies and mass communication.
