PNCA working to save national heritage

ISLAMABAD - Top Pakistani artist Tauqeer Ahmad Nasir, DG Pakistan National Council of Art (PNCA), said on Tuesday that there was a dire need to recreate the passion of 1947 to bring peace, harmony and brotherhood amongst the countrymen, while PNCA was working day and night to save rich heritage of the country. In an interview with TheNation, Tauqeer said that being a performing artist and DG PNCA it was part of his responsibilities to struggle for the betterment of beloved country that nowadays was confronting with numerous challenges. For this mission, at the moment I have reduced my professional activities. After performing in 'Teri Ik Nazr and 'Uljhay Dhageh, I can not find time to take part in any other serial, he added. Promotion of artists is my passion for which I have been fighting since long. Besides money, honour and acknowledgment on the societal and state level is much desirable for the artists, who are playing vital role for saving the national heritage, good values and depicting the soft image of the county within as well as abroad. To a query, he said, After joining PNCA I am feeling much stress, as I find very little time for my profession, but for the noble cause of promotion of national culture and heritage I will do what can be possible in this regard. Tauqeer said despite several restrictions the period of 1980-1990 was exemplary era for the art industry, as 1988 Pakistan had got best drama award among the regional countries including India. He said that late entry of Pakistani channels was one of the main reasons of promotion of Indian culture in Pakistan. There is a need of effective planning and passion to reunite like 1965 and October 2005 against all domestic and external challenges, he suggested. It is pertinent to mention here that Tauqeer Nasir has done more than 150 serials and 250 long plays and Tele Films from 1978 to 2008. He Produced and Directed Tele Film Gali No. 85 and 30 episodes of mega serial Koi To Ho. Lahore Centre is my mother station but I used to work for all five centres of PTV. I have done several characters having real reflections of living characters in the society but at the same time I have specialised in angry young mans characters, he said. He said that PNCA would arrange a Drama Festival every year divided in three categories namely, comedy, serial and classical. In this series, homage would be paid to the great heroes like Muhammad Shafi and Mehboob Alam to aware the youth, especially the teenagers, regarding our national heroes, traditions and future. DG PNCA said that while arranging the festival and exhibition with collaborations of other countries PNCA was strengthening the relations with neighbouring countries. He said that an exhibition with the collaboration of Iran is underway at PNCA. He said that merit would be ensured at every cost for the revival of the visual and performing art industry, as to create harmony between two was big challenge for him. Without proper propaganda and appropriate presentation, drams should not be aired. Tauqeer pledged that to pursue the profession of training in the field of Journalism and Performing Art with modern practical pragmatic approach, he would use his analytical, reporting and communication skill to educate the aspiring youth to contribute positively to the society and to act as an active agent of constructive change in Pakistan.
