KARACHI - Sindh Minister for Information Department Shazia Marri has said that anti-democratic elements of media are busy to destabilise PPP-led elected government of the county. Addressing a Press conference at the Committee Room of Sindh Assembly she also condemned the thoughts expressed by an anchorperson Dr Shahid Masood on a private TV channel, in which he raised objections over Sindhi cap of President Asif Ali Zardari. She also blamed that Dr Shahid Masood through his views was trying to ignite the ethnic riots in the country, adding that the said anchorperson was harbouring some personal vendetta against the President Asif Ali Zardari. She said by attacking presidents wearing traditional Ajrak or Sindhi cap, the anchorperson has infuriated public sentiments through his 'biased approach. She also termed Shahid Masood as opportunist adding that besides getting other benefits from PPP he also enjoyed his position as MD PTV. Meanwhile, the Sindh Information Minister during her press conference also presented the Sindhi caps to the journalists as solidarity with the President. She said that PPP government had always honoured media freedom and it was committed for freedom of expression. However, using the mass media resources, no one should exhibit such irresponsible attitude, she noted. PPP welcomes any suggestions from media and civil society for better governance. Sindh Minister said that we feel proud that the first resolution for creation of Pakistan was passed by the Sindh Assembly, while PPP always worked for the strengthening and progress of country and would continue it. Referring to the reconciliation process initiated by present government, she said that country was running on right direction due to steps taken by national leadership. She also praised the PML-N Chief Mian Nawaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif over their national mindset and flexibility in approach which paved way for NFC to reach consensus between four provinces for resource distribution formula on multiple criteria. Criticising PML-Q leadership, she said that anti-Sindh steps like construction of Thal Canal and military oppression in Baluchistan were initiated by their government, while Nawab Akbar Bugti was also murdered during PML-Q led government. She admitted the existence of problems in the country, saying that India, UK and other democratic countries have problems, which dont indicate the failure of democracy as a system. Answering to a question she said that unity and reconciliation should be visible in true and real sense and not in artificial manner between ruling parties of Sindh government. She also said that the list of those who got their billions of rupees loans waived off, should be made public. She rejected call for resignation of NRO beneficiaries adding that it was domain of judiciary to decide. She also said that nationalists parties of Sindh have right to protest on problems while government is aware of problems being faced by masses.
