ISLAMABAD - The National Assembly Standing Committee on Law and Justice has agreed to propose complete monetary autonomy to the new National Accountability Commission (NAC) accepting the demand of the Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) members of the committee. The meeting of the committee was held here on Tuesday with Begum Nasim Akhtar Chaudhry in the Chair and attended by Anusha Rehman, Saira Afzal Tarar, Zahid Hamid, Ch. Abdul Ghafoor, and State Minister for Law and Justice Afzal Sindhu. The committee during its meeting reviewed the Accountability Bill 2009 of the eligible public office holders. As a routine matter, the chairperson stopped the media from covering the meeting, on which the members registered strong protest. Sources privy to the meeting informed that the PML(N) members in the committee had expressed serious reservations over inclusion of section placing the commission under the Ministry of Law and proposed to give financial and administrative autonomy to the proposed commission. Later, talking to media Anusha Rehman of PML(N) said the government and the committee has agreed to their proposal and decided that annual budget would be given to the commission and also it would be administratively autonomous.
