PESHAWAR (APP) The opening ceremony of the 31st National Games would be held here at Qayyum Sports Complex on March 25, 2010, NWFP Minister for Sports Syed Aqil Shah said on Tuesday. Aqil said this after attending the meeting of the Executive Committee of the Pakistan Olympic Association chaired by its president Lt. Gen. (retd) Arif Hassan. He said that the members of the executive council of the POA fully supported NWFP to organize the game. The opening ceremony would be held on March 25, 2010 while the closing ceremony would be held on March 31, 2010. It is worth mentioning here that the games, which had earlier been scheduled on Nov 15 to 21 was postponed due to security reason. He said that foolproof security arrangement would be ensured to the players and officials to make this national event a success. He said although the province was passing through a critical juncture the province, yet we made our commitment on behalf of the provincial government to show the world and the country that the government and people of this province were full of life and vigor and had the capability of holding all sort of challenges. Apart from Women Swimming and Rifle Shooting (Men & Women) which will be held in Islamabad, all the other 19 events will be organized in NWFP with all affiliated 11 Units of the Pakistan Olympic Association vie for the top honor. The games are athletics, hockey, swimming, badminton, bodybuilding, boxing, basketball, cycling, football, golf, handball, judo, kabaddi, karate, taekwondo, shooting, squash, table tennis, volleyball, weightlifting, wrestling and wushu. The female would take part in 11 different events like athletics, swimming, badminton, cycling, football, karate, taekwondo, shooting, table tennis and wushu.
