KARACHI - Transport and Communication Department (TCD) has launched a comprehensive program through coordination with various organisations to control the increasing road accidents and other traffic problems, the Nation learnt on Tuesday. Informed sources said that, although, City Government was passing through a financial crisis but the on going condition of traffic system demanded some immediate and concrete measures to address the citys most complicated issue on war footings ground. The TCD first visited all the important thoroughfares of the City, collected accident data through various departments and received complains about traffic related problems accordingly. Traffic experts and engineers helped TCD in various traffic improvement plans and finally decided to launch Road Safety Education drive in all segment of society to save the lives of the citizens, injuries and disabilities. According to TCD sources, advance technologies can play an important role creating the sense about road safety education. It has been decided that different FM Radio channels would be used to spread the messages and information of road safety education and other traffic related news. Besides it has been decided to organise road safety seminars, road safety walk in schools, purchasing of equipments for road safety education, training of community policing, lectures on road safety education in government and private schools. In collaboration with Karachi Arts Council, famous artists will also take part in this movement. The DO, TCD and head of road safety education unit Aamir Hussain, when contacted said that massive campaign of road safety education has been started among all segment of society and specially focusing children. He said that these programs would be continued through out the year and TCD would go all out to inform the citizens about the importance of road safety education in collaboration with various organizations, departments and forums.
