ISLAMABAD - With the efforts of Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP), the menace of students climbing on the rooftops of public transport is finally going to be ended, as students would be offered discounts while travelling on public transport. In this regard, a meeting was held here on Tuesday, which was presided over by Dr. Moeen Masood, SSP Traffic, Islamabad, and attended by vice principles of different colleges, Directors Education, Secretary Islamabad Transport Authority (ITA) and office-bearers of Public Transporters. The meeting thoroughly discussed matter of students climbing on rooftops of buses. Talking to TheNation, Dr Moeen Masood said, All stakeholders including parents, office-bearers of public transport and college administrations have to play their due role to get rid of students travelling on rooftops. He said by fixing reasonable fare for students this menace could be controlled, he added. He said to overcome the menace a close liaison among all stakeholders was the need of hour. To a query, he said fixation of fare was yet to be decided, however, ITP was intended to give maximum relaxation to students, as they were future of Pakistan. He said formal announcement of the fare amount was expected to be announced after EID. Talking about the meetings deliberations, he said all matters were thoroughly discussed and all stakeholders were agreed to give maximum relaxation to the students. He said that traffic education campaign was being launched in colleges to create traffic awareness among the students, as they were liable to follow the law.
