LAHORE - The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Wednesday claimed to have arrested Abdul Rauf ex-Regional Director, PCRWR Lahore allegedly involved in embezzlement of Rs 14.5 million during the period from March 1, 2007 to September 11, 2008. According to the details, UNICEF entrusted a sum of Rs 14.5 million to accused in his capacity as Regional Director PCRWR/ Government of Pakistan Lahore, for conducting different water studies/ analysis in different areas. He kept these funds in his account No 1115-1 MCB Illaqa Nawab Sahib Branch Lahore and account No 010-0261-1 UBL College Road Branch Lahore and utilised these funds as single signatory. During this period, he received all benefits including salary/perks and privileges from the GOP, all the infrastructure, human resources, lab facilities and technical equipment of PCRWR/GOP, conducted/carried out these studies/ analysis/ tests and in connivance of others prepared bogus record in the name of M/S Mithas Enterprises and pocketed the amount Rs 11.59 million. On his transfer/repatriation to his parent department WAPDA, he did not hand over any book/ record of the said accounts or record showing the receipts/ expenditures of these funds to his successor. The competent authority has accorded permission to register a case against Abdul Rauf and others. After registration of an FIR, accused Abdul Rauf arrested .
