KARACHI Karachi Blues opener Naveed Khan was fined Rs 7,500 when he was allegedly found guilty of using a mobile phone in teams dressing room during the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy match here on Wednesday at the National Stadium. President Karachi City Cricket Association Sirajul Islam Bukhari here confirmed the reports that the match referee in the four-day Karachi Blues/Wapda match Anwar Khan has slapped the fine when he was informed that the player had breached the new PCB rule under which the players were advised not to carry or use mobile phone. The new rule which was put in place by the PCB under the latest advice of the ICC and prohibits players in cricket playing countries to carry mobile phone even in domestic cricket matches. The ICC, about three days ago while discussing various issues related to match and spot-fixing, had decided to advise its members to ban use of mobile in domestic cricket as an anti-corruption measure. After Salman Butt, Aamer and Asif allegedly were found involved in spot-fixing in Lords Test against England about two months ago, the ICC announced a number of measures to keep the game clean from betting and corruption. Placing a ban on mobile phone in domestic cricket was one among a number of steps that the ICC had decided to get rid of corruption in the game. Sirajul Islam Bukhari disclosed that match referee Anwar Khan himself personally did not catch Naveed Khan using the mobile phone but acted when told about the incident. The match referee acted after he was shown a clip of a video filmed by a local private TV channel in which Naveed Khan was seen holding the mobile in his hand in the dressing room and was seen dialing a number. He said Naveed Khan did have a mobile in his possession but he was just checking his mobile account and was not trying to contact some one. He said Naveed Khan gets Rs 3000 for each match he plays but the fine amount was more than double of that fee. He said the KCCA has all the intention to contest the accusation but first it would like the manger of the Karachi Blues team Tauseef Ahmed to give them a report and explain only then they would move. Naveed Khan is the first cricketer who has been fined for allegedly using a mobile against the advise of the PCB in the dressing room in a domestic cricket match.
