In IHK, 114 persons killed over 15,000 injured in 139 days of uprising

SRINAGAR: In Indian held Kashmir, 114 people have been killed by Indian forces’ personnel during the 139 days of the on going mass uprising in the territory.

According to a report released, over 15,000 people, mostly youth, have been injured during the Intifada, which was triggered by the extrajudicial killing of popular youth leader, Burhan Muzaffar Wani, by Indian troops on July 8, 2016.

Of those injured, more than 7,300 have sustained pellet injuries, said a press release issued on Friday.

Around 1,600 of the pellet victims were hit in the eyes; 22 of whom have been blinded totally, while 307 are at the verge of losing their eyesight. Over 9,030 people including Hurriyet leaders and activists have been arrested for participating in anti-India demonstrations during the period and black law Public Safety Act has been invoked against 600 of them.

Meanwhile, Hurriyet leaders including Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Muhammad Yasin Malik, Nayeem Ahmed Khan, Zafar Akbar Butt, Ali Raza Syed and the High Court Bar Association of the occupied territory strongly denounced the killing of innocent people along the Line of Control.

They termed the killing of civilians travelling in a passenger bus in Neelam valley of in Azad Jammu Kashmir as barbaric and said that the lingering Kashmir dispute was the main reason behind such incidents.
