KARACHI -  The Pakistan Ordnance Factories (POF) has indigenously manufactured an Electronic Time Super Quick (ETSQ) Fuze for the first time in the country’s history and placed it at the POF stall on the 3rd day of IDEAS-2016 here Thursday.

The fuze, which was earlier exported by spending approximately 1.2 million dollars annually, was unveiled by Federal Minister for Defence Production Rana Tanveer Hussain.

The POF Research and Development Department after concerted efforts indigenously developed fuze that is at par with all the imported time fuzes. It is adaptable for shells ranging from 105 to 203mm. the dual purpose fuze is used for high explosive as well as cargo rounds. It explodes at a programmed preset time, thus resulting in bursting or ejection of the shell.  The fuze can be used both in manual and automatic modes. No time fuze was being produced in Pakistan earlier and the armed forces had to rely on their import spending approximately 1.2 million dollars every year.

The indigenous creation will not only support the armed forces in the battle field but also benefit economically by reducing import considerably.

Earlier, the federal minister was received by Lt-Gen Omar Mahmood Hayat, the chairman of POF Board, at the POF stall and gave him detailed briefing about the new development. Rana Tanveer lauded the efforts of POF by producing new weapons and equipment by using innovative technologies and latest techniques.

The federal minister further remarked that it was a matter of pride that POF caters the requirement of the armed forces of the Pakistan and the other law-enforcement agencies and exporting arms and ammunition to friendly forces and strategic partners around the globe. POF board chairman remarked on the occasion that IDEAS will go a long way in defence production and has a reliable and bright future.

He was optimistic to declare that POF has been successful to come up to the modern day challenges and expectations of countrymen for defence production. Subsidiaries of POF i.e Wah Industries Limited, Wah Brass Mill, Wah Nobel and POF Clothing Factory also displayed their products at IDEAS. Its newly developed weapon HMG-PK16 and Light Sniper Rifle remained the focus of attention among the visitors.

Naval Chief Admiral Zakaullah & Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah also visited POF stall and expressed their satisfaction over the performance of POF.
