KARACHI -  Head of Aafia Movement Dr Fauzia Siddiqui, on the occasion of the Thanksgiving Day, has urged the US administration to do justice to Dr Aafia Siddiqui, who is about to complete 5000 days of her illegal detention.

In a statement issued here on Thursday, Fauzia said that the good natured people always expressed their gratitude to Allah, and sought His mercy.

“This is the essence of the Thanksgiving Day, observed by the US families every year,” she said, adding, “On this occasion, we want to remind the US citizens that their government and court had made a mockery of law and justice during a sham trial of innocent Dr Aafia on the US soil.

She said that the first 5000 days of the illegal and inhuman detention of Dr Aafia Siddiqui are about to be completed on December 6, 2016.

“During these long years, a peaceful and global movement for the release and repatriation of Aafia to Pakistan has been continuing and peace-loving people as well as the volunteers of Aafia Movement have been kept demanding all these years her release through their letters, text messages, e-mails and telephone calls,” she said, adding, “We also wish to expand our protests from Karachi to Islamabad.”

Fauzia said that a petition for the repatriation of Aafia had already been filed with the US Justice Department.

She appealed to President Obama and the US administration to consider this petition on humanitarian grounds.

Meanwhile, the volunteers of ‘Dr Aafia release symbolic hunger strike camp’ on the 86th day of their hunger strike held a protest demo in front of the Karachi Press Club.

They also kept praying at the strike camp for the early release of Aafia.
