LAHORE - Honda Chenab routed Dawood Group by 5-3 to earn place in the main final of the Winter Polo Cup 2017 while Dawood Group made way to the subsidiary final here at the Lahore Polo Club (LPC) ground on Friday.
Bilal Haye and Ghulam Mustafa Monnoo were the joint heroes from the winning side as both scored a brace each while Ahmed Ali Tiwana contributed one. From the losing side, Mumtaz Abbas Niazi struck two goals and Raja Arslan Najeeb hit one.
The crucial match started with both the teams trying to attack each other goals and they also succeeded in pumping one goal apiece in the first chukker. The second chukker was identical to the first one as once again, one goal each was scored by both the sides to make it 2-2. Honda Chenab changed their game plan in the third chukker which paid dividend and they succeeded in banging in a brace to take 4-2 lead but one goal was also strike by Dawood Group to reduce the deficit to 4-3.
The fourth chukker was also contested well and both the teams gave tough fight to each other. In the dying moments of the day, Bilal Haye got a golden chance to convert a 60-yarder which he successfully managed to net in and helped Honda Chenab win the event 5-3.
Lahore Polo Club president Irfan Ali Hyder, executive committee members Omar Niazi and Saqib Khan Khakwani, secretary Col (r) Shoaib Aftab, members and their families and polo lovers were also present on the occasion and witnessed the well-contested match. The main and subsidiary finals of the tournament will be played on Sunday.
