Most of the wars and military coups are done in the name of democracy against democracy

– Edwardo Gelano

In the two years after 1965, the world saw a total of 22 military coups. Most of these coup d'etat happened in Africa and the third world. However, one happened in a European country. On 25th November, 1967 the military junta in Greece took over. The three years before the coup were tumultuous for the country. The coup was a culmination of the long resistance between forces of left and right in Greece. The seeds of these tensions can be traced back to World War 2. The military rule ended in 1974 because of the pressure of Turkish forces which were invading Cyprus.

Coups are common in Pakistani history as well and are facilitated by weak and transitioning state institutions.
